A great looking instrument with a large bell and highly resonant sound. The aperture even at the top-section of the instrument is quite wide, therefore the backpressure is medium and the sound is rich in flat acoustics. The toot and dups are easy to hit. The wall of the instrument is quite thin, therefore this stick is lightweight and easy to handle. I recommend this instrument for both traditional-fans and contemporary players, especially for those who are looking for a 'resonator' for self-sound-bathing.
The painting depicts ḏatham, a water lily flower, a Dhuwa moiety plant sung Gälpu - Dhopiya's husband's clan - which grows in the water-ways of Arnhem Land. A classic traditional yiḏaki from the remote Birany Birany homeland in Northeast Arnhem Land. The body of the instrument is quite slim and lightweight, the sound resonates similar to instruments you can hear on old recordings, excellent instrument to practice the 'growling' tone. The backpressure is medium, the transition between the drone and toot is easy, the dups sound great. I recommend this instruments for traditional players and art collectors.

The artwork depicts a specific type of plant that grows in the thick patches of bush - called 'ratjpa' or 'jungle' by Yolŋu - and flowering during the wet-season (December to March).
