Djalu’ is the most well-known didgeridoo master makers of our time; being one of the most senior traditional custodians of the didgeridoo in Northeast Arnhem Land, his spiritual connection and knowledge about the instrument is unique amongst both Yolŋu and ŋäpaki (non-Indigenous people). His genuine wish to share his culture with the rest of the world contributed to the spread of the didgeridoo across the planet; his vision of the yiḏaki as a cross-cultural communication tool is extraordinary and exceptional. He also talks about the yiḏaki as a superb healing instrument, according to him those qualities derive from the ancestor spirits and the ability to connect to their powers, also the spiritual and personal traits of the player. During the past decades Djalu’ and his family travelled the world to play and share his yiḏaki, witnessed by thousands. His instruments are valued for the powerful sound qualities that often referred to as thunderous.
