Dhapa Ganambarr yiḏaki G#/F# (HLY-502) SOLD

$1200

Out of stock

A powerful, high-pitched instrument from master maker Dhapa. Despite its high key and strong backpressure, this yiḏaki remains accessible—even for moderately experienced players—thanks to its responsiveness and versatility. The drone is rich in both low and high overtones, and it responds well to lip and tongue articulation. The toot is easy to hit, making it a well-rounded instrument for both practice and performance. The craftsmanship is of the high standard expected from Dhapa: thin walls, a smooth finish, a perfectly shaped mouthpiece, and a well-formed bell.

The painting on this instrument depicts ganguri, a type of yam that is a staple food source for Yolŋu. This design is connected to a songline that tells the story of an ancestral being who journeyed to a distant island inhabited by spirits to bring ganguri back to the human world. According to the songs, while staying with the spirits, the ancestor observed them singing and playing the yiḏaki—highlighting the deep cultural and ceremonial roots of the instrument.
